I really hesitated writing this post because I don’t have a good photograph to go along with it quite yet. I would love to introduce you to the newest member of our extended family, but you see, he’s invisible.
This week Aliza informed us that her imaginary friend Fern has a baby brother. You remember Fern, right? Here are a few posts if you need to jog your memory:
- Aliza and her pal Fern
- An artist’s rendering of Fern
- Fern is turning 3
- Fern’s surprise birthday party
- Fern touches a knife and gets in big trouble
I was in the kids’ room reading books when Aliza asked if I could make room on my lap because Cinnamon English wanted to read books, too. Imaginary friends are always welcome in our home, so of course I made room. I tried to speak directly to Cinnamon English, “Cinnamon, what book would you like me to read?” Aliza corrected me, “His name is Cinnamon Eng-a-lish, Mommy. He can’t talk yet because he’s just a baby. Here, he wants to read Gossie.”
I asked Aliza some more questions about little Cinnamon English and discovered the following:
- Cinnamon English wears a diaper and has a pacifier for when he goes to sleep
- Cinnamon English can’t talk yet but he says a few words that only Fern and Aliza can understand
- He always wants to hang out with Fern and Aliza, but this can be annoying because he’s a baby and he still eats crayons and Play Doh
- He’s sweet and cuddly
- Cinnamon English drinks milk from a sippy cup but not pomegranate juice/water cocktails like Aliza and Fern
- Cinnamon English needs to take naps when Aliza and Fern get to stay awake and play
- Cinnamon English is a cheeky monkey. He likes to pull the handle for the water cooler and let the water puddle on the kitchen floor
I was telling a friend tonight about Aliza’s new companion, and she observed that it seems like Cinnamon English has quite a few things in common with Norah. Like, almost everything except that he is a boy. Could this be some variant of sibling rivalry manifesting itself in the imaginary world? This makes me wonder what Fern’s parents are like. Are they cool and awesome like Aliza’s?

Ha!! I just knew Fern was going to have a sibling one of these days. Interesting name, there Cinn. That place is getting mighty crowded!
Your kids never fail to entertain, that is for sure!
hi gloria! i go to redeemer fellowship in kansas city. i just love your blog…especially the stories about fern and now cinnamon english. hilarious!
I love Aliza’s beautiful imagination she’s going to be an artist
) If it is sibling rivalry I guess that’s a better form than knocking Norah out with a doll or something?! She can tell Cinnamon English to do whatever she wants.
funny! i love his name. that is the cutest.
ps- what’s the pic on the top right corner?? birds in masks??????
soo funny! she has a fantastic imagination! hope you can capture a picture soon.
Hi Ali! Those are falcons. They put hoods on their eyes because they’re afraid of people.
Once again, Aliza keeps the whole world entertained!
